When it comes to preserving the value and longevity of your home, your roof takes center stage. At Roof Shield, we believe that understanding roof rejuvenation and roof repair is more than just home maintenance—it’s a way of futureproofing one of your biggest investments.

Understanding Roof Lifespan and the Role of Rejuvenation

Each roof has a story, and its lifespan can vary from a short decade to a robust half-century. A lot rides on the materials used. But here’s where things get interesting: the longevity isn’t solely about what’s on the outside. It’s also about how it’s cared for and maintained. Enter the world of roof rejuvenation.

This process isn’t just about patching up a few worn spots. It’s an in-depth revitalization that can significantly extend the life of your roof, ensuring it not only looks great but also performs at its peak.

Deciphering Roof Repair Needs: Signs and Solutions

Roof repair isn’t just a reactionary measure; it’s proactive maintenance. When armed with knowledge, you can spot early signs that your roof might need a little TLC:

  1. Curled or Missing Shingles: If you start to notice your shingles misbehaving, it’s a clear sign they need attention.
  2. Attic Issues: Moisture or daylight peeking through? It’s repair time.
  3. Age: If your roof is nearing the end of its expected lifespan, regular checks can prevent minor issues from becoming major problems.

What is a Pipe Boot?

Welcome to the Roof Shield Educational Blog, a series dedicated to empowering homeowners and builders by sharing insights and knowledge on important roofing topics and roof rejuvenation. Today’s post focuses on an often-overlooked but vital aspect of roofing: the pipe boot. If you’ve ever wondered about its purpose, how to recognize damage or even the differences between metal and rubber pipe boots, keep reading! Together with Roof Shield, you’ll uncover how this small detail can have a huge impact on the life of your roof.

Understanding the Pipe Boot: What is it?

When you take a moment to observe your roof, you’ll probably notice several pipes extending through, each encircled by either rubber or metal collars. These are the pipe boots, also known as flashings around the pipes. Their function? To provide waterproofing to your plumbing vent pipes, safeguarding all the potential penetrations from causing unwanted leaks into your living space.

What Causes a Pipe Boot to Fail?

A pipe boot isn’t immune to wear and tear, especially from prolonged exposure to sun, rain, or other extreme weather conditions. With fluctuating temperatures, roofs naturally expand and contract. This movement can cause the roof boot to shift, peel, or even crack, creating potential entry points for leaks into your home.

The effectiveness of a pipe boot depends largely on the material from which it’s made. Regrettably, not all homebuilders prioritize quality, often choosing subpar roof boots to reduce costs. Such a seemingly insignificant saving of around $100 can result in roof boots that are prone to failure, sometimes remarkably soon after installation.

Recognizing Signs of a Damaged Pipe Boot

Damage to your pipe boot might manifest in various ways, including:

  • Wallpaper or paint that’s cracked or peeling off on your kitchen or bathroom ceilings
  • Shingles near your roof’s vent pipes showing signs of damage
  • Unsightly water stains on your ceiling or walls

How Roof Shield Protects Pipe Boots

Part of the Roof Shield process is a full roof inspection. Shingles, flashings, and pipe boots are inspected as part of this comprehensive process. Any issues found will be addressed before the roof cleaning and ultimately, the rejuvenation is performed.

In the case of pipe boots, minor issues can be addressed by the installation of pipe collars that protect the underlying boot from damage. For more significant damage, the pipe boot can be completely replaced with high-quality metal boots that will last the entire lifespan of the roof.

Conclusion

The significance of pipe boots in the overall health and functionality of your roof cannot be overstated. These small components play a vital role in protecting your home from leaks and other potential problems. At Roof Shield, we recognize the importance of meticulous attention to every detail of your roof, including the often-neglected pipe boots.

Our applicators are trained to conduct a thorough roof inspection to identify any issues, whether it’s wear and tear, cracking, or other forms of damage to the pipe boots. If required, they can carry out necessary repairs or complete replacements to ensure optimal performance. This intensive examination and careful remediation is done before the Roof Shield rejuvenation process begins, providing a robust foundation for the comprehensive roof care that we offer.

By entrusting Roof Shield with your roofing needs, you are choosing quality, expertise, and a commitment to long-lasting solutions. Don’t let minor issues escalate into major problems. Reach out to our experts today, and let Roof Shield address all your roofing concerns, starting with a detailed inspection that leaves no stone unturned, even down to the pipe boots.

Pros and Cons of a Roof Overlay – A Comprehensive Guide by Roof Shield

Choosing the right roofing solution is vital for the longevity and performance of your roof. At Roof Shield, we’re dedicated to helping you make informed decisions. In this post, we’ll explore the pros and cons of a roof overlay and introduce Roof Reboot, our innovative asphalt shingle rejuvenator that offers an affordable alternative.

What is a Roof Overlay?

A roof overlay is the practice of adding a new layer of shingles over an existing roof. This method may extend the roof’s lifespan and offers a short-term solution, but it comes with both advantages and disadvantages.

The Cons of a Roof Overlay

If you’re considering a roof overlay, here’s a detailed look at the potential downsides:

Warranty Issues

Warranty challenges arise with roof overlays since the original installation quality and the condition of the underlying deck are uncertain. This makes it difficult to provide guarantees.

Cuts the Roof Lifespan

Additional shingles can cause heat retention, which may shorten the new roof’s lifespan. This lack of ventilation can lead to a quicker deterioration of materials.

Hidden Costs

Roof overlays might have hidden costs as leaks become harder to locate and repair. Additionally, future replacement costs might be higher due to the need to remove multiple layers.

Unable to Inspect the Decking

A roof overlay hinders inspection of the underlying decking, which is crucial for quality installation. Without proper inspection, underlying issues may go unnoticed.

Cannot Layer Architectural Shingle

Overlaying is not suitable for architectural shingles, as they require flat surfaces. This limitation restricts the use of certain materials and designs.

Adds Height and Weight

An overlay adds significant weight to the structure, potentially harming the decking and framing. This additional weight may also affect the overall aesthetic of the home.

The Pros of a Roof Overlay

Despite the challenges, there are some advantages to a roof overlay:

Cost Savings

An overlay might save you 20 – 40 percent compared to a full replacement. These savings come mainly from reduced removal and disposal costs.

Less Mess

Leaving the original shingles on reduces cleanup and shortens construction time. It also minimizes the disruption to your daily life.

Roof Reboot: A Third Alternative by Roof Shield

As you can see, we don’t recommend overlaying onto an existing roof as the potential disadvantages easily out weigh the advantages. However, at Roof Shield, we offer a third option, asphalt shingle rejuvenation. A single treatment of Roof Reboot, our cutting-edge rejuvenator:

Restores Performance

Roof Reboot penetrates the shingles, replenishes lost oils, and revives them to their original functionality. This restoration process enhances the roof’s overall performance.

Cost-Effective

Roof Reboot by Roof Shield provides an incredibly budget-friendly solution at only 10 percent of the cost of a new roof. This affordability does not compromise quality or effectiveness.

Environmentally Friendly

Roof Reboot is not only a cost-effective solution but also an environmentally sustainable one. By rejuvenating existing materials, it reduces waste and supports greener living.

Conclusion

Roofing decisions should be made with careful consideration. While roof overlays have their place, they might not be the best option for every situation. Our unique solution, Roof Reboot, offers an innovative, affordable, and environmentally responsible alternative to roof replacement. Introduction:

Welcome to RoofShield, where we focus on rejuvenating and restoring roofs to their former glory. Discover our eco-friendly solutions for effective roof maintenance.

Asphalt shingle granules collect in the gutters around the house during degranulation and granule loss. The granules reduce the capacity of the gutters and make clogs more likely.
Shingle granules collect in the gutters of the home.

Understanding Shingle Granules

Roof shingle granules are small, mineral-coated particles that play a vital role in protecting and enhancing the appearance of asphalt shingles. These granules are available in a wide range of sizes, shapes, and colors, providing durability and adding a touch of uniqueness to your roof, making it a beautiful masterpiece. At RoofShield, we understand the significance of these granules and their role in prolonging the lifespan of your roof.

Causes of Granule Loss

Granule loss on your roof can occur due to various factors:

  1. Normal wear and tear over time, as your roof is exposed to harsh weather conditions like rain, hail, snow, and the sun’s UV rays, can lead to gradual granule erosion.
  2. Manufacturing defects may also cause premature shedding of granules, leading to concerns soon after installing a new roof.
  3. Excessive foot traffic on the roof, especially during maintenance or repairs, can dislodge and damage granules, further affecting the overall protection of your roof.
  4. Hailstorms can be particularly harsh on roofs, causing granules to dislodge upon impact, leaving your shingles exposed and vulnerable.
  5. Moss and algae growth on the roof, especially in damp and shaded areas, can lift and dislodge granules, compromising your roof’s protective capabilities.
  6. Improper roof installation can lead to loose granules, making your roof susceptible to damage.

At RoofShield, we understand each of these causes and can provide tailored solutions to address granule loss effectively.

Signs for Repair or Restoration

Determining the appropriate action for granule loss depends on several factors. Firstly, consider the age of your roof. If your shingles are nearing or past their expected lifespan, widespread granule loss may indicate the need for a complete roof replacement. Secondly, evaluate the extent of the damage. If granule loss is limited to a few isolated areas or individual shingles, restoration may be in order. However, if the granule loss is extensive or exposes the underlying layers of your roofing shingles to the elements, replacement may be the best course of action. Signs such as leaks, water stains, curling or buckling shingles, consistent granule accumulation in gutters, or moss and algae growth require professional attention. At RoofShield, we have a team of experts to inspect and assess the situation to provide you with the most suitable solutions.

Handling Granule Accumulation

As your asphalt shingles age, finding some granules in your gutters and downspouts is normal. These granules gradually shed over time due to normal wear and tear. However, if you notice a significant accumulation of granules in your gutters or around the base of your downspouts, it could be a sign of excessive granule loss. This might indicate that your shingles are reaching the end of their lifespan or that there is an issue with the shingles, such as manufacturing defects or damage from weather events like hailstorms. In such cases, a professional must inspect your roof to determine the cause and assess whether repairs or restoration are necessary. If restoration and rejuvenation are possible, a single treatment with Roof Shield’s asphalt shingle rejuvenator, Roof Reboot will stop further granule loss and extend the lifespan of the roofing system.

Taking Action

At RoofShield, we believe in the power of rejuvenating and restoring roofs to their former glory. When you notice granule loss on your roof, it’s essential to take prompt action to prevent further damage and ensure the longevity of your roof. Replacing the affected shingles may be sufficient for isolated granule loss, and our team can handle this efficiently. Remember, regular inspections and proper maintenance can help extend the life of your roof and protect your investment for years to come.

Conclusion

Roof Shield’s focus is on rejuvenating and restoring roofs, reducing the need for unnecessary replacements. By understanding granule loss and taking appropriate action, you can ensure the longevity and beauty of your roof. Trust Roof Shield for eco-friendly solutions, expert roof maintenance, and a team dedicated to preserving the integrity of your roof for years to come.

Roof Rejuvenation: With and Without Soft Washing

At Roof Shield, we incorporate soft washing as a first step in our roof rejuvenation process. And by understanding its importance in the rejuvenation process, Roof Shield applicators ensure superior results. The following will discuss the effects of roof rejuvenation with and without soft washing.

The Importance of Soft Washing Before Rejuvenation

Soft washing before roof rejuvenation provides two key advantages:

Removal of Organic Growth: One of the key benefits of soft washing is eliminating organic growth. Aging roofs are covered in varying degrees of moss, algae, lichen, and fungus. These organics damage and degrade the roof over time. Removal of organic growth through soft washing prevents further damage and allows better penetration of the rejuvenation oils. Better penetration results in improved damage repair and a better-performing roof.

Superior Aesthetic Appeal: The most common sign of the organic growth listed above is black streaking. Soft washing eliminates unsightly black streaks and grime that accumulate over time. Doing this opens up the shingles, preparing them to receive the rejuvenation oils. This results in a more vibrant, fresh, and appealing look, amplifying the results of roof rejuvenation.

To summarize, soft washing before rejuvenation and restoration:

  • Removes organic matter that is actively damaging the roof
  • Allows for complete oil penetration
  • Removes unsightly black streaks to improve the finished look

Examples

Now that we know how soft washing improves the final results of roof rejuvenation, let’s look at some examples.

Without Softwashing

We performed this little experiment where we first applied our rejuvenation without soft washing.

Roof rejuvenation without soft washing first.
Roof rejuvenation without soft washing leaves the roof rejuvenated but full of streaks.

As you can see, the results our pretty damning, and no homeowner would be happy with this result.

With Softwashing

To remedy the issue above, we degreased the roof and then soft-washed it fully before reapplying the rejuvenation.

Roof is soft washed before rejuvenation yielding far superior results.
The roof is soft-washed before rejuvenation yielding far superior results.

… the results speak for themselves, and ensuring results like this every time is why Roof Shield integrates soft washing into our process.

More on Soft Washing:

Roof rejuvenation is a critical home maintenance task that requires meticulous preparation to achieve optimal results. Soft washing is a pivotal step that precedes roof rejuvenation and ensures its success. This gentle yet thorough cleaning method offers a dual advantage—effectively removing roof-degrading organic growth and significantly enhancing the roof’s aesthetic appeal. Let’s explore how soft washing acts as a game-changer in roof rejuvenation.

Soft Washing: The Essential First Step to Roof Rejuvenation

To appreciate its significance in roof rejuvenation, it’s important to understand what soft washing involves. It’s a cleaning technique that utilizes low-pressure water flow combined with eco-friendly, biodegradable chemicals to eradicate harmful organisms such as moss, algae, lichen, and fungus. Unlike high-pressure power washing, soft washing is gentle on roofing materials, preparing your roof perfectly for rejuvenation.

Why Soft Washing Sets the Stage for Successful Roof Rejuvenation

1. Removal of Organic Growth: One of the key benefits of soft washing is eliminating organic growth that can damage and degrade your roof over time. This initial cleansing step is integral to roof rejuvenation as it eradicates moss, algae, lichen, and fungus, preventing them from impeding the absorption of rejuvenating oils.

2. Ensuring Superior Aesthetic Appeal: Roof rejuvenation is not just about improving the durability of your roof but also about enhancing its appearance. Soft washing eliminates unsightly black streaks and grime that accumulate over time. By doing this, it opens up the shingles, preparing them to receive the rejuvenation oils. This results in a more vibrant, fresh, and appealing look, amplifying the results of roof rejuvenation.

3. Prevention of Premature Roof Replacement: Soft washing as a pre-step to roof rejuvenation can significantly reduce the need for premature roof replacement. By addressing potential problems early on, soft washing helps maintain the condition of your roof, allowing the rejuvenation process to work more effectively and ultimately saving you from costly replacements.

4. An Eco-Friendly Approach to Roof Rejuvenation: Soft washing is an effective and environmentally responsible cleaning method. The biodegradable cleaning solutions used are harmless to the surrounding environment, pets, and plants, thus aligning with eco-friendly roof rejuvenation practices.

Conclusion

In the journey of roof rejuvenation, soft washing serves as a powerful launching pad. Its dual advantage of cleaning the roof for optimal rejuvenation oil absorption and enhancing aesthetics makes it an essential pre-step. By opting for soft washing before roof rejuvenation, you’re choosing a method that guarantees superior results in functionality and appearance. So, make soft washing a cornerstone of your roof rejuvenation process, and enjoy a healthier, more beautiful roof for years to come.

Embrace soft washing as a precursor to roof rejuvenation — your roof (and your wallet) will be glad you did!

What are the Benefits of Roof Rejuvenation?

Before and after the Roof Shield process. The results speak for themselves.

Roof rejuvenation is an innovative process that has transformed the roofing industry. It extends the lifespan of your roof by restoring it to its performance to its original condition. Thus saving you the huge costs associated with a roof replacement. One of the leading technologies in roof rejuvenation is Roof Shield, a process that cleans and restores aging asphalt shingles using a proprietary asphalt shingle rejuvenator named Roof Reboot. Here, we delve deeper into the world of roof rejuvenation and its numerous benefits.

The Importance of Roof Rejuvenation

Roofs, just like any other part of your home, wear out over time. Exposure to the elements, temperature fluctuations, and the simple passage of time cause asphalt shingles to lose their pliability and become brittle. This makes them more susceptible to damage from storms and changes in temperature. Shingles also lose granules, the protective top layer that provides resistance to damage. As the granules are lost, the shingle’s ability to resist weathering decreases significantly. Additionally, aging shingles allow more moisture to permeate, leading to an increased risk of leaks and water damage.

Rejuvenation addresses all these issues, extending the life of your roof and enhancing its performance and appearance.

Roof Shield and Roof Reboot: The Next Level of Roof Rejuvenation

Roof Shield is a leader in the roof rejuvenation process, employing a two-step method to clean and restore old and aging asphalt shingles. The first step involves cleaning the roof using a gentle soft washing process that removes streaking, mold, and algae. The next step is the restoration process with Roof Reboot, a proprietary asphalt shingle roof rejuvenator manufactured by Roof Shield.

Roof Reboot has been lab-tested to restore the performance of a 15-year-old shingle back to that of a new shingle. When absorbed into the shingles, it revitalizes them from the inside out, providing a series of vital benefits:

  1. Restoring the shingle’s pliability: As shingles age, they dry out and become brittle, making them more vulnerable to damage from storms and thermal changes. Roof Reboot restores the shingles’ pliability, reducing their vulnerability to these elements.
  2. Preventing granule loss: The granules are the top layer of the shingle, and as they are lost, the shingle’s resistance to damage decreases. Roof Reboot stops granule loss, maintaining the shingle’s durability.
  3. Improving impact resistance: After the shingles regain their pliability and granule adhesion, they become less likely to sustain damage from hail and strong storms.
  4. Restoring vapor resistance: Vapor resistance is the measure of how much moisture a shingle will let through. Roof Reboot changes an aging shingle’s rating from semi-permeable to impermeable, preventing moisture penetration and potential water damage.
  5. Enhancing color: Dry shingles absorb Roof Reboot, resulting in a dramatic change in shingle color. This makes the roof look years younger and improves the building’s curb appeal.
The Wider Benefits of Roof Rejuvenation

Beyond the immediate improvements to your roof’s performance and aesthetics, roof rejuvenation also comes with a slew of broader benefits.

Firstly, it’s cost-effective. Rejuvenating your roof can significantly extend its lifespan, thus delaying the costly prospect of a total roof replacement. It’s an investment that more than pays for itself in the long run.

Secondly, roof rejuvenation contributes to sustainability. By extending the life of your current roof, you’re preventing waste from old shingles that would otherwise end up in landfills.

Lastly, a rejuvenated roof can increase the value of your home. A roof in good condition is a major selling point if you put your property on the market. Not only does it enhance the visual appeal, but it also gives potential buyers peace of mind knowing that they won’t have to deal with a failing roof anytime soon.

Why Choose Roof Shield?

Roof Shield has taken roof rejuvenation, repair, and restoration to new heights. As the manufacturer and exclusive distributor of Roof Reboot, Roof Shield has integrated a comprehensive suite of cleaning solutions into their ‘Clean-Restore-Protect’ program to provide homeowners with the best possible results each time.

Moreover, every Roof Shield applicator is extensively trained, licensed, and insured, ensuring high-quality, professional service. With its proven methodology and superior product, Roof Shield stands as the number one choice for asphalt shingle rejuvenation and life extension.

The transformation Roof Shield provides is staggering – it can turn an old, tired, and dirty roof into one that’s cleaned, restored, and protected within a single day. It’s a remarkable investment that offers both immediate and long-term benefits.

Conclusion

This innovation in the roofing industry has led to a shift in how we approach roof maintenance. Instead of the traditional ‘wait and replace’ approach, homeowners can now opt for ‘clean, restore, and protect’ – thanks to roof rejuvenation.

Roof Shield and its proprietary Roof Reboot rejuvenator represent the pinnacle of this approach. They offer an effective and economical solution to extend the lifespan of your roof, improve its resilience against weather and the elements, enhance its aesthetics, and ultimately, increase the value of your home.

In conclusion, the benefits of roof rejuvenation, particularly with Roof Shield’s Roof Reboot, are numerous and valuable, making it a worthy consideration for any homeowner or property manager. The shift towards roof rejuvenation isn’t just a trend; it’s a smarter, more sustainable way to manage and maintain our homes and buildings for the future.

Roof Rejuvenation vs. Replacement: Extend Your Roof’s Lifespan

Don't replace your roof, restore it with Roof Shield and save thousands.

A well-maintained roof is vital for the safety and efficiency of your home. When faced with an aging or damaged roof, homeowners often consider a complete replacement, which is both expensive and disruptive. However, there’s an alternative that is growing in popularity—roof rejuvenation. In this blog post, we will discuss the differences between roof rejuvenation and replacement and how rejuvenation can help extend the life of your roof.

Roof Rejuvenation: A Cost-Effective and Sustainable Solution

Roof rejuvenation is the process of restoring your existing roof by addressing any minor issues or damage and then applying a shingle rejuvenation product to restore the shingle’s performance. Compared to a full roof replacement, this restoration saves homeowners thousands and minimizes disruptions. Here are the key benefits of roof rejuvenation:

  1. Cost-effective: Roof rejuvenation is substantially less expensive than replacement. By focusing on repairing and restoring the existing roof, you can significantly reduce the overall cost and avoid the expense of a complete replacement.
  2. Environmentally friendly: Roof rejuvenation is a sustainable choice, as it extends the life of your current roof and reduces waste. By postponing the need for a new roof, you conserve resources and contribute positively to the environment. (Visualizing Waste: How Many Tons of Asphalt Shingles End Up in Landfills Annually? – Roof Shield)
  3. Shorter project duration: Roof rejuvenation is completed quickly. Most roofs take a few hours, minimizing any inconvenience to your daily life. In contrast, a full roof replacement is time-consuming and disruptive.
  4. Enhanced protection: Roof Shield uses the asphalt shingle rejuvenator, Roof Reboot, that restores the performance of a 15-year-old shingle back to the performance of a brand-new shingle. By fortifying the roof with Roof Reboot, your home is protected from the elements, and the roof’s lifespan is extended. (What is Roof Shield? Unveiling the Protection Your Home Needs – Roof Shield)
  5. Improved curb appeal: A rejuvenated roof can boost the aesthetic appeal of your home, making it look well-maintained and attractive to potential buyers. This enhancement can increase your property value and make your home stand out in the neighborhood.
Before and after of the Roof Shield process. From dirty and brittle to cleaned and restored. Adding years of life to the roof.
Before and after the Roof Shield process. From dirty and brittle to cleaned and restored. Adding years of life to the roof.

Roof rejuvenation is an excellent option for any asphalt shingle roof that is not in complete failure. By rejuvenating and restoring before failure, you can extend the life of your roof and avoid the need for a costly replacement down the line.

Roof Replacement: Necessary but Disruptive

However, if a roof is at failure, whether through damage or age, it is time for a replacement. Roof replacement involves removing the old roofing material and installing a new roof. While it can be expensive and time-consuming, there are instances where it is the most appropriate choice:

  1. Extensive damage: If your roof has suffered significant damage from weather, pests, or age, a replacement may be the only viable solution. Your Roof Shield applicator will assess the roof, and a replacement will be recommended if it is beyond the rejuvenation point.
  2. Near the end of its lifespan: If your roof is nearing the end of its lifespan and shows severe signs of age, rejuvenation may not be as effective or practical. In this case, a replacement can provide long-term protection and peace of mind.
When to Consider Roof Rejuvenation

The decision between roof rejuvenation and replacement depends on several factors, including the roof’s condition, budget, and age. By carefully considering these factors and consulting with a roof rejuvenation contractor, you can make the best decision for your home. Roof rejuvenation is a cost-effective and sustainable alternative to replacement that can extend your roof’s life while enhancing your home’s protection. It is certainly an option worth considering before committing to a full roof replacement. And with Roof Shield’s ‘Clean-Restore-Protect’ program, your rejuvenated roof will save you money, extend its life, and restore the roof’s curb appeal in the process.

The Importance of ASTM Testing?

The ASTM logo

In a previous post, I answered the question, What is ASTM Testing? And in that post, I also share some of the tests used to validate product performance in the roof rejuvenation space. But I noticed that the post didn’t dive deep enough. As I interact with more contractors and clients nationwide, I find the topic of ASTM testing warrants greater understanding. We will start with a little background.

What is ASTM Testing?

ASTM International is the American Society for Testing and Materials. A globally recognized organization that develops and publishes standards for a wide range of materials, products, systems, and services. These standards serve as guidelines and benchmarks for quality, performance, and safety across various industries, including the roofing sector. The credibility of ASTM standards stems from their rigorous development process, which involves the input of industry experts and stakeholders from around the world.

ASTM testing methods certify shingles throughout the United States. This means that GAF, Tamko, Atlas, etc… determine the performance of their shingles through the testing methods developed by ASTM. As a result, when testing roof rejuvenation products, ASTM testing is the only valid methodology.

The ASTM logo
The ASTM logo. Here is a detailed overview from ASTM International

.

What ASTM Testing Provides?

By standardizing methods across the roof restoration industry, ASTM provides:

  1. Quality Assurance – ASTM standards provide strict guidelines to ensure quality, setting minimum requirements for product performance. These guidelines act as a quality control mechanism, enabling manufacturers to produce high-quality products that meet consumers’ expectations consistently.
  2. Performance Comparison – ASTM testing allows for an objective comparison between various roof rejuvenation products. By testing all products against the same set of standards, consumers can make informed decisions based on a product’s performance in specific areas, such as water resistance, UV protection, and longevity. This uniform approach to testing and evaluation ensures that consumers can easily compare products to find the best fit for their needs.
  3. Industry Benchmarking – ASTM standards serve as a benchmark for the entire industry, helping roofing professionals, contractors, and consumers evaluate various products’ quality and performance. Providing a clear and uniform set of guidelines, ASTM standards create a level playing field for manufacturers. Holding all products to the same high quality and performance standards.
  4. Certification – Compliance with ASTM standards is a mark of quality by industry professionals, including building inspectors, architects, and contractors.
Are other testing methods valid?

In short … not really. There are countless anecdotal tests. But the reality is that roof rejuvenation products need to be tested by scientific and repeatable methods.

This is important to remember when comparing products. Roof rejuvenation is an emerging market. Most of the established brands are ASTM-tested and work to varying degrees. But there are a growing number of startups that aren’t ASTM certified.

If you are a homeowner looking to rejuvenate your roof, or a contractor, looking to offer roof rejuvenation services to your clients, make sure to ask about the ASTM testing. You can easily sort the offerings on the market with that one simple question.

Conclusion

Consumers have confidence in their choice by selecting ASTM-tested products. Knowing that they are investing in a solution that has been rigorously evaluated and validated by an independent body. This adherence to industry standards not only guarantees a high-quality product but also contributes to the continued growth and innovation within the roof rejuvenation market, resulting in more effective and environmentally friendly solutions for maintaining and extending the life of our roofs.

Revolutionize Your Roof Restoration Business with Roof Shield

The Roof Shield system is easy to use, handle, and manage and is a great stand-alone or add-on service.

The roof restoration industry has seen significant advancements in recent years, and Roof Shield is leading the charge with its innovative treatment system. Designed to clean and restore asphalt shingle roofs, Roof Shield extends the lifespan of roofs, eliminates costly replacements, and offers an attractive business opportunity for entrepreneurs. In this blog post, we will explore the advantages of Roof Shield’s unique product, Roof Reboot, as well as the benefits of our comprehensive training, user-friendly equipment, and flexible business model.

Roof Reboot Advantages:

Roof Reboot is a game-changing solution that restores asphalt shingle properties to new or better-than-new condition. With Roof Reboot, shingles regain their pliability and flexibility, preventing cracks and curling by allowing them to expand and contract with daily thermal changes. Our product also enhances impact resistance, offering protection against weather damage such as hail and fallen limbs. Granule adhesion is improved, retaining the top layer of granules that safeguard both the shingle and the home. Additionally, Roof Reboot restores vapor barrier resistance, making aged, semi-permeable shingles impermeable again and effectively stopping water penetration. Lastly, Roof Reboot enhances the color of the roof, restoring its appearance.

Roof Reboot is also environmentally friendly, being 98% USDA Bio Preferred, which makes it the greenest roof rejuvenator available. And our product comes in easy-to-handle 55-gallon drums, as opposed to the competition’s 270-gallon totes that require special equipment and handling.

Training and Equipment Advantages:

Roof Shield Academy provides comprehensive training, teaching soft washing and roof rejuvenation from the ground up to users of all skill levels. Our efficient and user-friendly application equipment is over 75% lighter than the competition, simple to use, and maintenance-free. Roof Shield equipment allows for easy switching between soft washing and rejuvenation with just a simple switch. In addition, our equipment mixes the product in-line at the application site, reducing carry weight.

Business Model Advantages:

Roof Shield offers a flexible business model with no restrictive territories or monthly fees, allowing Roof Shield Certified Applicators to pursue work on their terms. Our system is compact and efficient, integrating with existing soft wash trailers, rigs, or skids, and scalable to a fully branded Roof Shield equipment trailer. This high-margin, low-overhead startup opportunity is suitable as a stand-alone business or as an addition to existing operations.

In summary, Roof Shield provides an innovative and eco-friendly solution for roof restoration, backed by extensive lab testing, efficient and easy-to-use equipment, flexible business options, and comprehensive training. This makes Roof Shield an attractive choice for entrepreneurs looking to start or expand their roof restoration services while addressing all the key aspects of the process.
